Biography
Welsh Soprano Erin Rossington has worked with Buxton International Opera singing the role of La Fee in Viardot's Cendrillon, and with Hampstead Garden Opera performing the roles of Mrs Forester and Owl in The Cunning Little Vixen conducted by Lada Valesova and directed by Eleanor Burke. She also created the role of the Doctor for Opra Cymru’s new commission Cyfrinach y Brenin by Mared Emlyn, conducted by Iwan Teifion Davies, where she also performed as Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte this spring.
A regular on the competition platform, she won International Voice of the Future at Llangollen International Eisteddfod, Lieder Prize at the David Clover Singers Platform 2019 and 2020, and the prestigious Elizabeth Harwood Memorial Prize at the RNCM in 2019. She also won Bridgend Male Voice Choirs Diamond Bursary competition2020 and the Audience prize at the Clonter Opera Prize 2022. Since winning at Llangollen, Erin has engaged in many opportunities, including performing recitals at Conwy Classical Music Festival and as soloist in the opening concert of the North Wales International Music Festival.
Erin has performed on renowned stages, including the Royal Albert Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Queen’s Theatre – London. Her career has extended internationally, singing at the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral in Argentina. She was guest soloist for NEW Sinfonia orchestra’s New Year Gala at St. Asaph Cathedral and St. Giles Church, Wrexham. In May 2019, Erin was part of the Spring Opera Showcase at Clonter Opera with and during the COVID pandemic in 2021 she recorded a recital at the Clonterbrook Music Room. Erin looks forward to perform ‘Cân y Galon’ alongside the prestigious Carducci String Quartet at the Gower Festival this summer.
Her opera roles include; Rosalinde Die Fledermaus, Salomé Hérodiade, Countess Le Nozze di Figaro, and Micäela Carmen. During her time at the GSMD, she performed Maguelonne in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon, the title role in Judith Weir’s Miss Fortune and Falsche Angéle in Weill’s Der Zar lässt sich photographieren. Erin made her Snape Maltings debut as Ina in TIDE, a new commission for Aldeburgh Festival and performed Lady Billows in Albert Herring for Clonter Opera. She was thrilled to be one of Garsington Operas Alvarez Young Artists for their 2020 season and be selected for New Generation Festival Summer School. She was also awarded the Violet Mary Lewis Memorial scholarship for the most promising voice at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2017.
Prior to joining the Opera School at GSMD, Erin received Distinction in Master of Music at GSMD, and 1st Class Bachelor of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music. Erin is one of four daughters and visits home as often as she can to help her family on their farm, feeling at one with the hills of their mountainous Welsh farm. Erin is supported by The Countess of Munster Trust, The Clemence Trust, Ryan Davies Memorial Fund and The Kathleen Trust and Help Musicians UK Sybil Tutton Opera Award.
